Here's what I made earlier...

Sometimes we get caught up in the things we do. This year for me its been my Architecture Postgraduate course, then wedding photography, my brothers wedding, more wedding photography and then starting the second year of my postgrad... things seem to slip by and end up forgotten. Thats kind of what happend with this photo (and the rest in the set).

I was so busy with what I was doing that I forgot to upload these to my website, flickr and facebook! I shall be going through some of my work from the past year and slowly upload them for everyone to see, afterall its a shame to let some nice photos go unseen.

Remember guys you can join my facebook group here http://www.facebook.com/business/dashboard/?ref=sb#/group.php?gid=18190808786

And please visit my website as i've recently redone it with a more simplistic approach. You can check that out here http://www.sunnyphotography.co.uk/

Take care and thanks for reading!

Light Night - Leeds!

Hey everyone! Friday the 9th Oct was Light Night, where there were events/interventions around the city to do with light and dark. It was a lovely experience and I think its a brilliant idea because it brings people out into the city at night, so they can enjoy it in a way they may not have before.

Overall awesome night and I recommend everyone go next time!

Tilt and Shift & ColourSplash

Leeds v Watford

Its been a while since i've posted anything but i'd just like to say that i am REALLY digging two apps for the iPhone at the moment - TiltShiftGen and ColourSplash!

TSG gives such an easy way to create a fake tilt and shift look, as well as adjusting contrast, saturation, brightness and even vignette! The T&S can be applied in any direction with any depth of field. It really is a brilliant app!

ColourSplash lets you 'grey out' parts of an image with a selection of adjustable brushes. It has a built in flickr/facebook uploader too!

Two brilliant apps which coupled together give you photoshop in your pocket! lol

After i've given these photos to the couple i'll be starting work on 2 other sets of wedding photos taken on alternate days (12-14hrs on each day stood on my feet!lol)

Remember, if you know anybody getting married be it a sikh, hindu, muslim, christian, or even a matrixism wedding.. let me know! i'd be happy to shoot it :)

Thats it for now!

Midnight Session & Taj-E

In May i had the pleasure of doing some event photography at Puro in Leeds at the Midnight Session gig, organised by Direct Sounds and featuring Taj-E. As well as taking some photos i also took some video (for the geeks amongst us [which includes me] it was shot at 1080p on a 5DmkII). Here is the video which i ruthlessly edited and peiced together from various footage throughout the night.

Its in HD too so check the youtube link directly if you like!

If you havnt seen the pics then click here - it should take you the first picture from the album on my facebook profile.

Take care!

Vaisakhi Leeds 2009

The celebration of Vaisakhi, the birth of Sikhism, is held as a Nagar Kirtan (procession with religious hymns) traditionally from one Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) to every other Gurdwara along the way to a central point of the city - which in this case is Millenium Square, Leeds. The turn out for this event was in the thousands, with almost every Sikh family in Leeds turning up and joining in the walk.

This pic shows a group of young Sikhs singing religious hymns (Kirtan) just outside of Civic Hall.

Check out my flicker page (by clicking on the pic) to see more pics of Vaiskhi or take a look at my facebook group (by going to my website www.SunnyPhotography.co.uk - then clicking on the facebook link!)

Happy Vaisakhi people!

BACKUP...? Time Machine??...

Recently I stumbled on a website which mentioned something along the lines of 'always have 3 copies of everything' and it made me think.. do i?

Up until (very) recently I had my mac set up as follows (WARNING: the following might sound a bit geeky!).....

2x 1TB Samsumg Hard drives set up in RAID 1 which means they mirror everything (so that hard drive B has a copy of everything on hard drive A). This is good for redundancy purposes i.e. if something went wrong with 1 hard drive i've still got the other with everything on it that the failed one had.
I also had a 500GB external hard drive which kept a backup of my Aperture vault (over 300GB of photos!). Also, I had a 500GB internal drive where i stored movies, music and it was also used as a scratch disk for Final Cut.

Time Machine

I use a Mac which can utilise a thing called the Time Machine which is built into the operating system. Judging by the reviews of it and demonstrations on the apple website, it looks pretty decent - it can literally go back in time and recover something you deleted yesterday, a week ago, even a month or two ago!

I was curious about it so I decided to test it out. I pulled one of my RAIDed 1TB hard drives out and hooked it up to an external enclosure (from eBay for about £20) formatted it and within seconds my mac asked me if i wanted to use it as a 'Time Machine Backup'. (Note here that my system still worked exactly like it did before - even by pulling one of the RAIDed hard drives!)

It took around 10hrs (i left it over night) for Time Machine to copy everything from my 1TB main system disk to the backup (approx 700GB of data). From my applications to photos, documents to 3D work, everything was backed up. The great thing about time machine is that it generates a backup of files that have been changed, deleted or modified - so it isnt just copying anything and everything.

I bought an Iomega Prestige 1TB hard drive yesterday so add to my time machine backup - so i'd have 2 time machine backups of my hard drive. One (the nicer looking Iomega drive) will be kept beside my mac constantly backing up and the other will be kept elsewhere, in another room or offsite, and backed up weekly. Its a good failsafe in case anything massively crazy happened like a fire or freak powersurge that could fry ALL power-connected hardware.

So far so good!

Sunny :]

a spring day photo 1!

a spring day
Originally uploaded by SunnyPhotography
I hate it when I wake up to a lovely, bright, warm sunshine filtering through the blinds on my bedroom window sometimes. Why? well.. it gives me the (false) impression that its really warm outside! Then when i actually DO go outside its freezing cold!lol.. but once my mind processes that sunshine does not always equal warm weather, i absolutely love it.. The false hope of warm weather draws me outside but the nature-filled world keeps my finger on the shutter. I like nature :)

here are 3 photos from that lovely day (march 29th 09)

Wangfujing Night Market

This is an image taken by a friend of mine who is studying documentary photography - in China.

"The Wangfujing Night Market has a selection of exotic Street food on the Snack Street. Deep fried insects, scorpions, and sea creatures can be found, along with other animals and animal parts not ordinarily consumed as food in the west"

I like how the man smoking the cigarette gives the impression of 'attitude' and rebeliousness compared with the rest of the bokeh'd out guys toward the left of the image.

Flame ON!

Captured at 1/5000th of a second, this image captured the flames from a religious, spiritual and holy cerremony carried out before a Hindu wedding.

Personally i love how the raw fire has been captured - as if it has been contained.

Any comments??...

5D Mark 2 at Focus On Imaging '09

here's some more footage of the 5D mark2 with two different lenses; the first being my favorite lens, the 50mm F1.2L lens; and the second being the 24-105mm F4 IS L lens. For those of you unfamiliar with canon lens terminology, 'L' stands for 'Luxury'. According to canon, "these lenses use special optical technologies [such as] Ultra-low Dispersion UD glass, Super Low Dispersion glass, Fluorite elements, and Aspherical elements to truly push the optical envelope."

Also, IS stands for Image Stabilisation which as the canon rep in the second video discusses, is arguably better than in-body stabilisation methods. The reason, i'm not sure, but i AM sure that he believes it with all his heart. Anyway.. here's the vids!

p.s. you might want to watch them in HD!

Broadcast Video Expo - Earls Court

I went to the Broadcast Video Expo event at Earls Court on Weds 18th Feb 09 with a videographer friend of mine. The equipment there was absolutely awesome! From consumer products to high end cinematography equipment such as the RED range of pro video cameras (which have a res of 4x 1080P!)

I got to play about with the Canon 5D MKII on a Steadicam Merlin. I obviously hadnt mastered the technique required to use it like the pros do but after 5 mins or so i was used to the silky smooth motion it gave and how to control it. After figuring out how to record from live-view on the 5D MKII I recorded this video... (please rate it and subscribe!) - its best to watch it in HD via the link from youtube.

how cute is that!?

just imagine how difficult it would be to catch a shot like this.. it requires the 2 P's.. patience and precision. (and a nice lens..lol).

Venice - the Biennale

An image from Venice that i quite like. It is the side of a pavillion by the river. It is essentially a mirrored glass box with the inside painted red and a tall tree standing directly in the centre of it.
